Some people prefer this because it lets them eek more out of their gears before needing to shift (Important in autocross where you want to avoid shifting due to time constraints) and it will increase ride comfort most of the time. Finding a person like that is worth a ton when you autocross and race like I do.Īlso, it isn't that upsizing consumes more power it just upsizes your effective gearing. I have such a guy who will do this for me who I trust to do everything I am not willing or able to tackle myself. This is how I get around the regulations and around not having TPMS installed in my tires.Īnother option is to buy the tire and find someone who will mount and balance them for your independently. The only way to get them to give you those tires is to have them mounted "loose" on the wheel and for you to put them on yourself with jacks, jack stand, and torque wrench. They are obviously fine, but for liability purpose DT won't put them on your car for the same reason they won't mount my tires without TPMS (Also a regulation they have to obey). This makes them technically unsafe by current standards though Ford racing uses them. It's because of the load rating not being high enough versus the stock tire which is like 992 lbs vs the 1102 lbs the oem tire provides. I'll report back on how they feel after they're mounted next week. I ended up getting the sport comp 2's in 205/45/17 for what will be $475 after rebate.

My question is if I'm looking at the wrong tire or if others have just had luck with their discount tire shops just mounting this 80w tire?Īnother option would be the Pilot Super Sport in 205/45 R17 but i would like to avoid the added power consumption due to a bigger tire.ĮDIT: I went back to Discount Tire and they wouldn't sell them to me and since I'm new here in South Texas, I don't have anyone that could mount them for me.

I've been researching and landed on that set for price and performance off of recommendations throughout this subreddit and fiestastforum. They brought up the fact that the stock load index is 84w and this set of tires is 80w so it would be unsafe for them to mount that set to my car. This is the set of tires I was looking to purchase:
